Regular diplomacy: Copernicus
The last Austrian bastion falls, and the noose draws tighter around EF. Perhaps the world is weary of war? A pair of peace proposals are made.
My thanks to Paul for playing out the Austrian position.

Breaking Away: Tour de Farce. Turn 7
Elvis breaks to the front, but he’s got no gas left so we can’t expect this to last. The Goz Transportation Co. wins the consistency award for a clean sweep of 3s. You’ve got your team in sync Goz, now just get them pedaling!
BOOB to GOZ): We're losin' Reagan in the pack! What's wrong, has the Alzheimer's gotten to him???? He NEEDED to be at the 55 speed limit.....
GM to Boob: I’m sure Goz is wishing Reagan was at 55 right now!
(BOOB to LATE NIGHT CHARACTERS): If you put Stacy's butt in gear and played the 15, THANK YOU! If you played the 10, BAD MOVE!
(IMLAC PONTIFICATES SOME MORE): He who will determine against that which he knows, because there may be something which he knows not; he that can set hypothetical possibility against acknowledged certainty, is not to be admitted among reasonable beings. All that we know of matter is, that matter is inert, senseless, and lifeless; and if this conviction cannot be opposed but by referring to something that we know not, we have all the evidence that human
intellect can admit. If that which is known may be overruled by that which is unknown, no being, not omniscient, can arrive
at certainty.
(BOOB to IMLAC): Oh shut up and keep drafting for the rest of us! That's acknowledged certainty!!
(PEKUAH to BUSH): I have one of those, but I don't use it!
We are riding to seek intellectual stimulation of a higher order.
(BOOB to CARTER): Hie thee to Florida and get us out of the REAL downer.
Carter to Imlac: I'm getting too old to build homes for everyone in Abyssinia. But that really shouldn't be needed anyway. Look around your homeland. You live in a DESERT!!!! Get OUT of it! We have deserts in America too, we just don't live there! Get on the bus and get OUT of the
DESERT!
Bush to SVClinton: That open-mike "blunder" of my boys' was as scripted as Al's mauling of Tipper on stage. The things you've gotta do nowadays for votes.
Reagan to Segue Sam: Ain't enough "O's" in "smooth" for me!
[George W. Bush and Al Gore can be seen on bicycles getting advice from Gerald Ford. Bill Clinton almost runs off the road mouthing the word "NO!" to W. and Al.]

Woolworth II-D: Who’s Your Buddy?
For those who are paying attention, and I’m obviously not one of them, I left the Germany army Berlin off the map last turn.
They’ve been rounded up from the brothels and are back in the ranks this time. The Austrian army should be in Bud, not Vie as well.
The centers continue to concentrate, however we still have no eliminations. The Spanish armada has a lot more success this time around, but meanwhile the Pope nibbles as Spain’s southern border. Germany and France continue their waltz and Russia takes another bite out of Austria.

Babble from the board:
Norse to Spain--OK!OK! Take Liverpool if you must. Sheesh...what a grouch!
Norse to Krauts--Very clever. Now you take my dots from da Anglos. Glad you not mine ally.
Germany - Horned-Helmet Heads: Yeah, life hurts like that sometimes.
Austria - Germany: If you don't come back, your back door will be totally open to Russia.
Germany - Austria: As you can see, the Tsar and I are on good terms. I have asked him privately to not wipe you out, but if he chooses to do so...
Russia - Austria: We are still allied, the form of the alliance is simply changed.
Russia - Germany: No need to awaken A St.P, it merely stands guard.
Austria - Italy: Too little, too late, I fear.
Rome - Austria: Thanks for the offer. I did not expect the invasion from the north, but I should have as he would not help you, why does he want you to go under?
Rome - Berlin: I'd be on your side, but not with your army invading my country.
Germany - Italy: Don't worry about me; I've already got a two-front war, and I don't intend to start a third. A PIE is just to flank SWI.
Austria - Turkey: Think about this: if Russia and Germany really are tight, then where does Russia expand next?
Rome - Moscow: LEAVE US ALONE!!!!!!!!!
Rome - Paris: How do we stop the aggresive hun?
Russia - Spain: Why are you giving up Tunis? The Pope is no longer a temporal power.
GM – Russia: This time around, the Pope DOES have tanks!
Rome - Spain: Thank-you. I will keep my forces east. If the Kaiser will turn East we can save Europe from the barbarian hordes.
GM – Rome: I think he might have preferred a little bit further to the east!
Spain to Italy: Holiness, someone must keep the Turks out of the Med. You are the only one powerful enough. If you open a front with me, it will be disastrous for us both.
Czar - Kaiser: The Oktoberfest was great. I really enjoyed the Paulaner and the Lowenbrau tents. How can I return your hospitality?
Russia - Turkey: Can you break out on your own? If not will you let my fleet pass through the straits to help you? It shall not move through unless you give permission.
Spain to Germany: To answer last turns' question....It appears that Italy is about to make a big mistake. An empty NTH & NWG would make a very comfortable DMZ.
Germany - England: Thought you'd care to try getting back to your island.
Germany - France: Herr von Schlieffen sends his regards.
Spain to France: Why aren't we allied with Russia & Turkey?
Germany - Spain: Forget England if you really want to switch sides. You can have Iceland and any other island you want if we gang up on France and assorted others in the west. Just start the troops...
Game Openings:
A few more players have joined the lists, but we are still woefully short of a new game. Only 7 game starts this year that Conrad registered. Come on now, prove that this hobby isn’t dying!!
Snowball fighting
We’ll either make dirigbles do less damage, or harder to hit with to try and make snowballs more viable. Come on now, join in the fun and sharpen your press pencils!
Signed up: Harry Andrushak, John Schultz, Rick Desper
Jim Burgess, Richard Weiss??
Perestroika Diplomacy: Add an economic twist to the classic game. Centers generate revenue, armies and fleets must be maintained, treasuries can be sacked! Rules are available on request.
Signed up: Art Schleinkofer, Phil Reynolds, Jack McHugh
Outpost: An economic game where you decide which resources to purchase and try to keep your colony viable. It’s a race to generate the most income, but resources are limited and you have to bid against the other players for them.
Signed up: Sara Reichert, Jack McHugh
Standard Diplomacy: Nothing new, nothing novel. The only twist to this game is that I strongly encourage players without email to join up. The long deadlines make it easier to get those negotiations in. That is not to say that I do not want people with email joining, but please do not do so unless you are prepared to negotiate fully with those people who don’t have email and rely on the Postal Service.
Signed up: Phil Reynolds
Black Hole Diplomacy: Watch the spaces disappear and the trips to the other side of the board get shorter and shorter. No stalemate lines in this variant. Great for those who like a free for all.
Signed up: Jack McHugh
Just the results please: Don’t really know what to call this one as I just came up with it. Perhaps it’s been tried before. The twist for this variant is that each season only the ending unit positions are published, not the orders. You’ll know who went where, but not who helped whom, or want may have been tried unsuccessfully.
Signed up: Phil Reynolds
Reader’s Choice: I’m open to anything, just send me the rules and if I think I can run it, I’ll offer it.
Milk and Cookies – End of Game Statements:
BoobSway: Congratulations, Richard. In this game, being everyone's favorite target is NOT the way to victory, no matter HOW many dirigibles one throws. Given all the time I spent in the Kitchen (you NEVER went, did you?) third place is more than respectable.
As for the worry warts wondering why I left myself in position to be hit by you, at that point taking rash chances was my ONLY chance.
